Instructor - Sue Archer - AWS, NWS, TWSA, FWS
Sue is a studio and plein air artist, national workshop instructor and national juror and judge for watercolor exhibitions. She showed her work in Art Festivals in Florida from 1985 -2014 and still shows her work in national watercolor exhibitions. Since Sue began exhibiting her work in 1985, she has won over 200 state and national awards, has received a Florida State Individual Artist Fellowship grant for painting, and has a DVD “Commanding Color”.
For 25 years Sue had painted large still lifes showing strong light and with textural interest. Now she is doing abstracted-textural work, close-up or mid-distant landscapes, some figurative works, and drawings in-studio and plein air. Painting the effect of light on her subjects and creating texture are still a passion of hers no matter what the genre.

Recommended Experience: One year of working with watercolor
Sue Archer’s goal as an instructor is to provide as much design and color theory information as time allows while encouraging artists to take advantage of the inherent wet-into-wet qualities of watercolor.
She believes in the power of planning and understanding the basics. Her objective is not to change your artistic style, but to add to your core of knowledge so you can apply what you learn to the style and subject matter that suits you.
About the Workshop:
This is a technique- and process-oriented workshop focused on creating texture in watercolor and watermedia. Finished paintings are not the objective. Instead, the emphasis will be on learning new ways to create textural effects and understanding how to incorporate them into your own work.
Your days will include demonstrations, lectures, projects, and ongoing critiques. Individual one-on-one consultation may also be available during and after class time, as time allows.

Two-Part Workshop Format:
The lessons in this workshop are progressive, with Part 2 building upon the techniques and concepts introduced in Part 1. Participants may register for Part 1 only or for the complete 4-day workshop (Parts 1 & 2). To participate in Part 2, you must first complete Part 1.
Please bring a lunch each day.
One year of experience with the watercolor medium is recommended. If you are unsure whether the workshop is appropriate for your skill level, please speak with Sue or Peggy before registering.
