PAINT ALONG ACRYLICS

Portrait of artist Cherie Blickenstaff

Instructor - Cherie Blickenstaff

Cherie Blickenstaff began her career as an artist, creating original works, exhibiting at Florida outdoor art shows, and licensing her designs to national reproduction companies. After more than 20 years working in other fields, she returned to her true passion—painting.

Cherie holds a BFA in Visual Communications from Florida State University and has a professional background in graphic design. Now retired, she is once again actively creating, exhibiting, and teaching. She especially enjoys sharing her skills and knowledge with students who may have once believed they could never paint, inspiring them to discover the joy of artistic expression.

In this vibrant acrylic painting class, you’ll learn how to capture the luminous beauty of native Seagrapes with a focus on bold color, glowing highlights, and organic forms. Inspired by sunlit leaves and warm coastal palettes, this project centers on a cluster of richly layered shapes—where light, color, and texture come alive.

Students will be guided step-by-step through:

Layering color to create depth in overlapping leaves

  • Blending techniques to achieve that soft, glowing highlight effect

  • Using contrast (warm vs. cool) to make your focal point pop

  • Adding expressive vein details that bring movement and life to your composition

  • Balancing realism and style so the painting feels both accurate and artistic.

This class is perfect for beginners who want structure, as well as intermediate painters looking to elevate their color confidence and brushwork. Various templates will be provided for those who need them, or you can just “wing it”.

By the end, you’ll leave with a striking tropical painting that feels sun-drenched, dimensional, and full of life—something that instantly brightens any space.

We will be painting on an 11” x 14” canvas. All materials will be provided.
