3 Day - Expressive Watercolors - Flowers & Landscapes

This Flower workshop will involve sending you some photos of flowers (mostly individual ones (a variety). (I usually bring fresh flowers to workshops for all, - it would be great if you could bring some real flowers, and greenery- I want to focus on nature).    We will be painting and interpreting individual flowers so that you will get a “feel” for application of paint, creating colors, (with a limited palette), values, soft vs. hard edges, controlling water, spontaneous approach to drawing and painting, etc.   After these fun exercises and explorations, we will create a painting of a bouquet of flowers – with our goals being design, preserving the white of the paper, avoiding mud, and watching for the surprises in our paintings!

I would also like to try to touch on interpreting flowers around a doorway or window as a way of creating flowers at a distance. (will provide a photo of a doorway or window) –   I will also send a photo for “landscape”.

PLEASE NOTE – you can bring your own photos also!!!  - or out of a magazine!

2 Day - Watercolors - Head & Figure

This workshop will begin with a head construction lesson and application of drawing exercises, to enable you to understand what you will be painting.  – and enable spontaneous applications of paint (with a rather limited palette).  After some drawing and painting exercises, we will focus on the translucent flesh tones, etc. and features, values, hair, background, clothing, etc.  I will be sending at least 2 images of what I will be painting – usually a young lady with dark hair, and a child with blonde hair.(or vice versa) , together with a free hand drawing I do that I will include in case you would rather trace that – (but feel free to freehand  your portrait or trace from photo –EITHER THE ONES I SEND TO YOU OR YOUR OWN THAT YOU WANT TO DO.)  That will be a variety.

I probably will send a photos of a figure and drawing so that you can have fun interpreting it in a quick and spontaneous manner.  During the whole workshop, we will be able to see each other and our work during certain times – and of course, ask questions – just like in a workshop – I want this to be as interactive as possible.
