Instructor - Patricia Lappin
Patricia Lappin opened her first studio in Fairfield, Connecticut in 1980. She taught privately and at the Greenwich Art Society in Greenwich, CT and was an elected artist member of the Silvermine Guild of Artist in Wilton, CT.
Patricia moved to Ft. Smith, Arkansas in 1996 and taught at the Center for Art Education and the Ft. Smith Art Center, now named the Ft. Smith Regional Art Museum (RAM). She also taught small groups weekly and workshops in the surrounding communities during the 20 years she resided in Arkansas.
Patricia has an extensive background in portraiture, landscape and abstract. Since moving to Florida, her personal work is changing, becoming more abstract and brighter in color.
FLORAL ABSTRACT COLLAGE
Spend two creative days exploring color, texture, composition, and mixed media with artist Patricia Lappin in this hands-on workshop combining gel-plate mono-printing, collage, and paint.
Day 1: Students will create a collection of one-of-a-kind painted papers using gel-plate mono-printing techniques. Working with tissue paper and other transparent and specialty papers, participants will build layers of color, pattern, texture, and impressions using acrylic paint, stencils, stamps, masks, and a variety of mark-making tools.
Color, design, and intuition will guide the process as each student develops a unique collection of papers to use in the next stage of the workshop.
Day 2: Students will transform their painted papers into expressive abstract floral compositions using collage, mixed media, and additional paint. Patricia will provide instruction on composition and design while encouraging participants to experiment with layering, shape, color, and texture to create artwork that feels personal and spontaneous.
This workshop is designed as a complete two-day experience, with the papers created on Friday becoming the foundation for Saturday’s collage and mixed-media work.
Patricia will provide a selection of gel plates and rollers for sharing, along with copy paper, tissue paper, texture tools, paints, stencils, masks, additional mono-printing materials, and matte medium for collage.
