FINE SILVER JEWELRY

Portrait of instructor Jennifer Kirsch

Instructor - Jennifer Kirsch

Jennifer Kirsch is the one-woman artist and owner of Atlantic Sea Glass Design. She is a senior-level Metal Clay Instructor certified by Art Clay World USA, an instructor member of the Alliance for Metal Clay Arts Worldwide, and a professional member of the International Sea Glass Association.

Her journey began with a love of nature and animals, collecting ocean-tumbled glass along the Jersey Shore, where she spent her summers handcrafting silver wire-wrapped pendants to raise funds for local animal rescues. Wanting more artistic expression to design around the sea glass that inspired her, she enrolled in metalsmithing classes and later discovered the Japanese art of metal clay.

This seemingly magical metal, made from 99.9% pure silver, can be shaped, molded, textured, and sculpted while wet and, after drying, refined and carved by hand before firing at temperatures up to 1,650 degrees. Working in pure, fine silver, Jennifer seeks to capture the beauty of the ocean and coastal life in wearable art. She enjoys teaching others the art of metal clay in a fun and friendly environment that encourages creativity and artistic expression.

Explore the art of jewelry-making using precious metal clay in this hands-on series of fine silver workshops. Each class guides students through the process of designing, shaping, refining, and firing silver clay to create a finished, wearable piece of jewelry.

Participants may register for one or multiple workshops. Each workshop features a different project and technique, allowing students to build skills while creating unique pendants and rings. No prior experience is required — these workshops are suitable for beginners through intermediate-level students.

All instructional sessions are taught in a supportive, creative environment with step-by-step guidance. Tools and materials needed to complete each project are provided, and every student will leave with a completed fine silver piece.

Important Information - Firing & Completion Process

All student pieces will be fired in the instructor’s home kiln after each class and returned to the studio approximately 4–7 days later. Firing requires very high temperatures—up to 1,650 degrees Fahrenheit—for 1–2 hours, plus additional heating and cooling time. After firing, each piece will be brushed and work-hardened in a tumbler. The full firing and sintering process will be explained during class.

Materials Fees and Optional Chains

Each workshop has a separate materials fee based on the amount of materials required to complete the project. This fee is payable directly to the instructor at the time of the workshop.

Sterling silver chains may be ordered through the instructor. Students may indicate interest during class, and chains will be ordered based on current silver prices and returned to the Studio approximately one week later, depending on delivery. The chains offered are sterling silver adjustable rolo chains (1.65 mm) in 16", 18", or 20" lengths.
