This is an open media class, students may work in the following painting mediums: Oil, Acrylic, or Egg Tempera. Students will be taught the history and foundations of Surrealism and employing the modified Mische Technique to create modern surrealist masterpieces. The goal is to deepen one’s knowledge of the art history of surrealistic painting while learning a new method, in addition networking and collaborating with other like-minded artists. Students should bring their own supplies.
Samantha Stalnaker is a contemporary painter of figurative allegorical surrealism whose work is deeply influenced by mythology, philosophy, and psychology. As a young adult, she studied psychology, history, and art in college. Graduating with a BA/BS in Studio Art and Psychology from Florida State University in 2017, and thereafter moved back to her hometown. Currently residing in West Palm Beach, Florida. In her paintings, Samantha seeks to intertwine the parallels of the unconscious with the struggle of the natural environment and how it relates to views regarding the female form and that of nature. The action and creation of her art is a form of therapy in which she can manifest her own surreal landscapes.
